Whole Health Management Cleveland, Ohio. USA
Whole Health Management (WHM) is at the forefront of operating on-site health clinics and wellness centers for the nation’s leading self-insured corporations. Unlike traditional health care systems which are based on a reactive approach to treating illness and disease, WHM has established a model dedicated to providing proactive and preventive care. WHM’s model focuses on keeping individuals healthy and preventing or, at a minimum, delaying the onset of health problems. Faced with rapidly escalating health insurance rates and associated costs, many leading organizations have turned to WHM’s onsite clinic model in order to improve employee wellness, reduce health care costs and increase productivity.
Since 1981, WHM has provided quality, cost-effective health care services to some of the nation’s leading corporations, including: Harrah’s Entertainment, Qualcomm, Sprint Nextel Corp., Capital One, Discovery Communications, Freddie Mac, and Scott’s Miracle-Gro Co., among others. The company currently provides health care to more than 300,000 employees and in many cases, spouses and dependents, at 76 sites, including several Fortune 500 companies, throughout the United States.
To support the company’s rapid growth, WHM recognized the need for a world class I.T. infrastructure. By implementing an established infrastructure, the company is able to provide secure, accurate information at the point of healthcare delivery. As Jim Hummer, Whole Health’s president and CEO said, “In today’s rapidly evolving health care world, the ability to efficiently capture, manage and distribute key health care information and patient records is critical to delivering the highest quality care to our patients and serving our clients.”
In order to provide, the secure, manageable infrastructure WHM requires, Chuck Siemon, chief information officer for WHM, chose to implement a server based computing strategy located on the Citrix Presentation Server. Following tests on a number of thin client devices, WHM decided to standardize its systems on the VXL Itona range.
“There were a number of key reasons why we chose VXL” said Siemon, “The close association with Citrix and the cost and reliability of the machines was very important, but ultimately it was because VXL demonstrated a strong willingness to work with us to develop the right product for our business.”
The adaptability and future of the product range was important to WHM when selecting VXL. “We were looking for a clear strategy on technology such as VOIP, Streaming, Voice Recognition and wireless portability,” said Siemon. “It was encouraging that VXL was also looking beyond our current needs, to develop a product that is prepared to incorporate the functions customers will need tomorrow. We work within an ever changing industry; VXL is prepared to grow with our needs.”
WHM has deployed more than 100 VXL thin clients within the organization and expects the figure to grow substantially during the next few years as the company continues to expand. Additionally, the company’s technology refresh strategy is to eventually replace personal computer based workstations, with thin client devices.
WHM’s I.T. strategy has developed one of the most robust integrated health information systems in the industry and VXL is proud to partner such a visionary company.
